I have owned a 1957 CJ5 since 1973. About 10 yrs ago my husband brought it to someone who unnecessarily took the engine out. It is a long sad story but we no longer have the original F head...or was it flat head 4 engine. My son retrieved the body several years ago but not the engine.

Can anyone advise me of some sources for engines to replace the lost one with? I see in the title of this forum the Dauntless V6. I assume that engine fits. Who makes it and where can I get one and what should I expect to pay.

My son and friends would probably attempt to put it back together. I think it is also missing the radiator as well as other parts. It used to be a 6 volt system. Will the whole electrical system need to be replaced?

    Thanks.

Best bet is to buy another F-head.

Please fill out your profile so we know where you are located, there might be someone close by with an F-head.

The V6 will fit but with some modifications.

    Thanks sparky.

I am in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

I think my son would enjoy a more powerful engine and to modify it although I was always partial to keeping it original. I keep pining for my engine that got away.

    Ahh. Now we can help.

    Hey Florida guys!

Visit the tech section and see the 134 to 225 swap page:
    http://ww.earlycj5.com/tech/engines/225/134to225.shtml

Be sure and visit the links at the bottom of the page.

Also most of that applies to any RWD Buick V6 not just the 225 V6.

The simplest would be to find another F-head like Sparky said. No problems like motor mounts, radiator fitting, etc. All direct replacement type stuff. It mainly depends on the ability of the people doing the work of course. How good of shape is the body? Transmission still there?

A replacement F-Head would be the easiest way to get it going again, but if you want a Dauntless V6, I have one that I would sell for $300. Complete engine, but I have never heard it run. The person I got it from said it was running fine when he pulled it out of his Jeep, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I'm about 150 miles north of Tampa, near Gainesville.

Wlcome from Cape Coral Florida, south of you. Sounds like the jeep has been out of service for a while. I would suggest get the Fhead, insall it and at least drive it for a little bit to get the zeal back for jeeps :) Then if more power is what you want plan out the V6 swap. If you are going for the V6 swap i have a T90 setup for the V6 down here.
And again... welcome to the forum!!!

Thanks all, that's a lot of great information.

The body is still in pretty good shape although it's been in the weather for a long time now. It isn't on blocks and the tires are semi flat, they probably are not any good any more.

I'll get back another time after I go over this info with my son.
