Have we discussed before what the factory ride height should be? Actually I think we have but never settled on a dimension.

Does anyone know what the factory ride height is? I'd like to measure and compare and see how much lift I've got with the add-a-leaf kit.

Also,..where should I measure to and from? Maybe top of axle to bottom of frame? This should tell the tale and not have to take into account the tire sizes.

And I guess there could be some differences due to spring sag and what not.

I think you got something there John. I would like to know the stock height also. My springs are old not sure if they are sagging much..or not at all. sounds like a survey. I would think from the bottom of the axle (spring perch-some out there have differt axles...ie d30) to the bottom of the frame.

Should be in the back of the original service manual. I don't have mine here but I have seen it for the 2A, 3A and <I think> the CJ5. It will show the stock bumper height measurement and all the others too! ;)

I'm interested in this also...I don't have a FSM though. If someone could look that up and post it, that'd be great

I have a '55 owners manual. It doesn't list the bumper height but it does say a body height of 67 1/8" at the top of the windshield & also an 8" road clearance.

The FSM does list overall height. However this is not a very good indication for height for anything other than a TOTALY stock Jeep. This includes the tires and rim sizes. Since these jeeps are pretty darn old, even an unmolested jeep will have springs that have settled.

The best way to measure for an amount of lift above stock is to measure from the center of the hub up to a fixed body point such as the bottom edge of the fender. Of course you would have to know the measurement of a stock jeep so you could subtract it from the above number.

    Mine seems to be raised.

Windshield height is 28 1/2 " , and if I crawl under there all the bodymount bushings need to be replaced. They are like, gone!
the body mount bolts all show 3/4 " between the body washers and the frame where they come through. Which means when I get them all replaced (with neoprene or what ever, not rubber) the wind shield height goes up to 29" or 30".

I'ld like to lower it back down to stock height,, but I don't know what that would be. Can't find it any where. Plus I think the rear drive shaft is at an extreme angle, and I would like to lessen that to closer to what the front one is.
