    Hello,
I own a M38A1.Please can you tell me the length of the shocks front and rear from hole to hole open and closed?
Mine was 27cm closed and 43cm open both front and rear. But i think this is completely wrong!!

    Thanks

Is yours stock? Lifted? What are we working with here? For the conversion, 25.4 mm per inch (or 2.54 cm per inch). Not sure where you are from (please fill out your profile under user CP at the top of the screen) but typically Americans understand inches and metric is not so well known.

    The jeep is stock.
conversion is 10.6" closed and 16.9" open from hole center to hole center.
I did a measure today without the absorbers and the jeep sit at 16.1" without passenger. This is from to upper to the lower bolt where the shock mounts.
    I'm from Greece!!!

Generally your shock absorbers will limit the downward travel of the axle. This is not optimal, but it's better than having them bottom out (close) before the axle stops.

So your overall collapsed (closed) length must be less than 10.6"; optimally I would choose a collapsed length of about 10". The extended (open) length of this shock absorber will likely be between 17 and 18 inches.

Here is a table of KYB shock absorber dimensions: http://www.kyb.com/technical/documents/ShockDimensionsSecured.pdf
I suggest you look up the KYB shocks suggested for a CJ-5, check their dimensions in the table, and see if they will work on your M38A1. I expect they will.
