Additional fuel filter question

After rebuilding my carb and addressing fuel related issues I have been advised to put in an additional fuel filter on the other side of the fuel pump. Near the tank. 225 v6 with stock fuel manual fuel pump. TO do this I will need to cut the hard line to make room for the filter. Has anyone done this and is there a trick to cutting the hard line?

I have a filter before the fuel pump and one between the pump and carb. The one between the pump and carb is close to the carb and attached with the short pieces of hoses in the filter boxes.

 

I assume debris was getting into the pump? A better solution might be a good sock on the fuel pickup in the tank. If you put a filter between the tank and the pump, make sure it is a bit over-sized. Generally not a good idea to suck through the filter as it will enhance the possibility of vapor lock.

 

I installed one on mine. Siphoned fuel from tank. Removed hard line from bottom of tank and cut hard line with tubing cutter. Removed about 8" of hard line and installed filter along frame rail. I put the longer piece of rubber line on the tank side so I could crimp it shut when I needed to replace the filter. Don't have to drain tank that way.

 

I have one right on top of the tank under the driver's seat (on a :v6: the lines go in the top of the tank). It's just hooked up with a little extra rubber hose. I had some debris in the tank & wanted some extra insurance.
