When I bought the jeep these replacement floor pans came with it but I can't imagine how they would have been used. The inventory sticker reads "floor pan under seats Jeep CJ-5 55-83". The manufacturers website confirms part ID with picture and same description. Any insights?

Well. Their application dates are not right. AMC changed almost everything about the CJ for 1976. One of the things that changed: the floors. The flors would either have to fit '55-75, or fit '76-83.

Aside from that, to me, it looks like they would not fit either application. Either that or the supplier expects you to do a lot that they aren't telling you about. Look at the CLassic Enterprises site http://www.classicent.com/jeep.php They have some good pictures of their parts, and their parts are reputed to be excellent quality.

I can vouch for that. That being said. If you are only looking to replace the floor pan itself, it's probably cheaper to get the sheet metal and cut it to fit...or go on eBay (where I got mine) and get some of the correct type.

Omix ADA may have a 72-75 floor pan now. Last summer I bought what they called a 55-75 floor pan and there was NO WAY that it would work. I spent hours on the phone talking with a tech from Omix, oddly and amazingly the tech also had a '74 CJ5 like me.

After we discovered the problem, they engineered a floor pan specifically for 72-75. I was too impatient to wait the 2-3 months for them to get the engineering model in, so I rebuilt the flat pieces and reused the angled pieces.

My advice, call Omix at (770) 614-6101 and ask for Sean Burger. See if they have the 72-75 floor pan available now. I don't see it listed on their site, but there's a good chance that it is available.

All I can see is if the top part folds up over the wheel wells somehow.....IDK

Anyway, mine are made out of an old Dodge hood and an old Ford hood :D

If you turn them sideways from how they are setting in the pic, they might fit the area under the front seats on a 76 or later CJ. Even then it looks like a pretty crude stamping.

That's not even a stamping.. Everything you see there was done with shears, brakes, snips or similar, and either a bead roller or a pullmax. Nothing a guy couldn't make out of flat sheet with a little time. (Even the beads could be done by hand with a chasing tool and a flat piece of steel shaped like the bead. Not worth the $$ to ship 'em.

Those look like ones I've seen come from JC Whitney. Thin, cheap, and don't fit. I'd recommend contacting Classic Enterprises if you need replacement panels. Quality that actually fits.

here's the link to what google comes up with for the manufacturer when I search for the part number and description

    http://www.noramstore.com/Jeep_CJ_5_68_83_Floor_Pan_Under_Front_Seats_p/0015446.htm

and here's what Quadratec has listed, same part number, same manufacturer but different picture, still hard to see how it would work.

    http://www.quadratec.com/products/32508_01_07.htm

So the question is, what were these made for? Obviously not a CJ-5 but they must have been specifically made for something! If I knew, I could post them up on CL and get them to someone who could use them. BTW, the ones from Classic are a no brainer - nice flat pans that look like the floor of a 74.

Is it just me or do parts for the intermediates seem kind of wiggly sometimes? :)

Yeah some of the parts are a bit different from the Willy's and post 76 AMC CJ's.

OK, looks like they are for 76 to 83 model CJ5s. It took a build picture on this forum to get my bearings. They install like this:

Doesn't help me but at least the mystery seems to be solved

Those look like the ones that I got from JC Whitney over ten years ago. I ended up just cutting up the sheet metal and splicing it in since I couldn't figure out how it would fit. I guess now the mystery is solved!
