Ok so I've got the AMC 360 will be running a set of Hedman header (full length) just wonder what everyone is running from the header back, i.e muflers/silencers and exit positions. Oh and its in a CJ6. Any ideas and possible photos would be helpful.

I am running true duals with stock exhaust manifolds . i am using fake flomasters and they exit at the rear by the spring hangers at an angle of 45 degrees down and 45degrees turned out to the side. With the angle that i have it you are much less likely to have exhaust gasses drawn into the pass compartment area. the mufflers are a tight fit but sound really good. i do not think that they are as loud as real flomaster brand mufflers. with no top 34" ltbs, and the exhaust i still have no problem talking to my wife at a normal converstion level driving down the road at 60mph.

Hooker Super Comp headers with dual Flow Master Series 40's and 3" all the way back.
Burbles around town like a modified then sounds flat nasty when I crack the throttle open.

Also using Hooker 9810's with a pair of Borlas with exit just in front of rear tires. No exhaust fumes in vehicle-I think any side exit will work. Same sound effects as Corveeper-low grumble until you give it some throttle.

OK added a couple of pics-first is historic as in 1975

Second set is present-also the second set of headers but same model as the originals.

:patriot:Nice pics duffer. I like the skid plates you put around the mufflers.
For anyone debating out the back vs. side exit exhaust, while I like the sound and the fact it’s coming from the back I do get exhaust fumes in mine with the top off.

Great pics, the fenderwells look so cool but I'm worried about damage as most of the stuff mine one is going to do is mud and loose gravel, thus the headers would be constantly getting hammered. Also thats a monstorious air filter!!!!
As mine is a CJ6 the distance from door to wheel is longer so the fumes may not be a problem, what about turning the outlets downwards instead of sideways?

I’ve got turndown tips on mine made from pieces of tubing left over from building the exhaust and it doesn’t seem to matter much. I might not get as many fumes around town but going down the highway the only thing that seems to help is a side wind.
And you’re right about fenderwell exit headers getting blasted with gravel and mud. Mud in particular likes to gather around the primary tubes at the collector and rot them out. Best plan is to just keep them clean, hose down after mudding.
They sound great though, and the flow out of them is incredible.

Duals on a 304 with stock manifolds and 2 chamber flowmasters. Everything is tucked between the frame rails. It's tight but it fits. They exit at the rear corners at 45 degrees to the side. Fumes with the rear window out and the doors on, none otherwise.

I like stock. Single cat, muff and pipe out the rear driver's side. She's a 304 and purrs quietly.

There is certainly something to be said for a nice quiet single exhaust.
Sure the duals snarl and turn heads but attention isn’t necessarily what you want when driving by Johnny Law.

Yes, duals are cool and loud, not sure I would build it that way again. Ah, who am I kidding I probably would. Ear plugs are a must anyway.
