Hey guys, I am getting ready to put my 74' back on the road. The current frame is toast, so I am leaning towards the TDK frame for my model year. First a little back round...74' CJ5, built 360, T-18, DANA20, locked but stock dana 30 and 44, 3.73 gears. I also have a "Teaxas" 300 from an 80' scout w/twin sticks on the garage floor.
The drive train works to my liking, and can modify as I see the need.

My question: If this were you...would you have TDK leave the spring hangers off but set up with the parts for the holbrook springs. (ie: stretch the rear a little)

Or...would have the frame set up for wrangler springs and deal with the axle mounts?

The wrangle option has a lot of lift kits from 0 to 4.5"., the holbrook of straight up 3.5" for the early cj.

Your opinions and pics would be great!

I, in the end, would like to run 35" rubber w/flat top /tube fenders.

    Have at it!!!!

The holbrooks don't stretch the wheel base. The extra length extends towards the center of the jeep. If you intend on buying new springs I'd lean towards yj springs. If contemplating used springs don't waste the effort and go with holbrooks I can tell you from personal experience the Holbrook springs work very well.

Thanks Nick. I understand the holbrooks dont stretch the wheelbase...I would move the rear hangers aft to achive the stretch.

My question was more bang for the buck. Or should I say labor/trouble for ride quality and trail manners. As well as future spring options and heights.

Again I would like to run 35"s with flat top tube fenders.

    Opinions are more than welcome

    Ps:
My question re: the holbrook stems from the fact that I just saw a wrangler with what I assume 2 1/2" springs and 37" tires and flat top fenders and 4" poison spyder rear flares...it was HHHUUUGGEE! Much taller than I want

I have said it before, with new stuff I have compared the cost and time to do a Wrangler spring swap. It came out to more than my Holbrooks cost. It took me a Saturday morning to install them on my jeep.

Well, if you are thinking of changing springs down the road then the wrangler springs open up more possibilities. I can tell you the Holbrooks ride fantastic and articulate great but you do get a bit of body roll. The nice thing is the ease of installation compared to the yj stuff

Howdy, for what it's worth the frame rails that I am using came from TDK and I am using 3.5 lift Wrangler springs. If you are going to get a TDK frame you mite as well go for the newer springs, as you will have more options for buying springs, mounting wrangler springs on a new frame such as a TDK is no big deal, and I did stretch my wheel base by three inches. As, to controlling body roll, I am using Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. Just my view on it as yours mite have different milage!!!
