believe me, i appreciate the help. Clutch kit and fork ordered. I'll update on progress when it is made, in the meantime... Any other advice for a guy who has never replaced a clutch?

Sorry I am late - dial a clutch is where I got my last one, but this is the correct one
    http://www.dial-a-clutch.com/Clutch_Kit_p/14199.htm

You had one for a 232 straight 6, not the 225 V6. It works on all the years (I usually use 1968 when I look up jeep parts).

I know this is an old thread but hopefully someone is still around that can help me. Is the surface the disc rides on raised on that flywheel? I am trying to find a clutch for a 74CJ5 with a buick 231 swapped into it but the flywheel isn't correct for the year the motor was made. The flywheel looks like the one you have. The center, where the clutch disc rides, is raised around 3mm. No one has been able to ID this flywheel and I can't find the right pressure plate for it. Been searching for over a week with no luck. If it is raised, what vehicle is the flywheel from? And did you find a clutch kit that worked? I can find all the parts but the pressure plate. Thanks

Advanced Adapters or Novak , Centerforce , even Jegs & Summit.............there is always some confusion there......call Centerforce direct and get a part number. Those flywheels were made to fit a 1977 or later Buick 231 even fire externally balanced motor.

Ive tried all of the above except Centerforce and Jegs. Every time I get told I need a part # or vehicle make and model which I don't know. Guy at Novak was super nice and gave me a couple other places to look but said without a vehicle, Buick clutches are a nightmare to research. They recommended a company name Mcleod Clutch. They are next. Ive gone through 5 different kits from the local shop and pressure plate is always for a flat flywheel. That's why I am trying to ID the vehicle this flywheel is out of. When I look up any clutch kits for 77-78 the disc and pressure plate are for 10" in the Buick models Ive researched and the one in this rig is 10.4". Im totally at a loss.

I believe it's a 78-79 Buick Skylark.......they came with a 3 or a 4 speed and a 10.4" clutch...............and you talked to Advanced and got no answer? Again Check with Centerforce directly and tell them what you have with the stepped flywheel.

That's what I am sure this motor is out of based off of the color and some of the parts on the motor. No clutch kits Ive ordered fit it though. Tried Mcleod they were rude and no help. I haven't contacted Centerforce yet but I found a thread at jeep-cj forums where the guy had the same flywheel from what I can read and Centerforce was able to ID it but the pressure plate has been discontinued. I plan to call them myself in the morning. I just called AA and this guy was really nice. He thinks it out off a Jeep 225 motor. He wanted me to email him pics of the flywheel so he could see it. He felt pretty confident he could figure it out and find the right kit. Hope he's right. Learning a lot about companies I will do business with again and recommend. Novak and AA have been the best so far. Hope they can help me figure this out.

Terry is right on for that fly wheel - TA Performance was also selling a fly wheel like that in the past (I have one for a balanced and blueprinted 231 in the shop now). I have not been able to get in the shop recently, but I have a clutch for it as well.

I am not sure, but I believe that is the same flywheel that was on the 198s too.

TA Perormance wasnt Able To Id It Either. They Recommended Taking It To And Industrisl Clutch Facility That Rebuilds Truck Pressure Plates. Said Its What He Had To Do When They Discontinued The Pressure plate For His Vintage Buick.
