quick/stupid question: Is it necessary to remove the drive shaft yolk in order to remove the rear output housing? If so, what size is the retaining nut? I removed all 5 bolts and it wouldn't come loose. I tried a few light taps with a rubber mallet -- still nothing.

FYI, Im doing the a rebuild with the Novak kit and instrunctions.

Thanks in advance, Happy Memorial Day

Moved to proper forum. Dana 20 transfer case was never used in flatfenders.

To remove the complete rear output assembly it's just the 5 bolts. Probably has sealer or the gasket is sticking. If out of the Jeep you can drive it out from the front through the input hole with a long drift.

If you are doing a rebuild, I'd expect you'd want to take the yoke off while it's attached to the transfer case. You may have a tough time holding the output assy on the shop floor.

Re the nut size, I don't know offhand. I'd take my caliper to it and measure. You can get a digital caliper for cheap at Harbor Freight, or on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Digital-...FMIO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1306852882&sr=8-2

Thanks, Nic. I was out all morning yesterday looking for a brass drift. Can you believe that neither Sears nor Lowes has a brass drift set in stock? I'll try tapping it out from the input. I'd imagine it wouldn't be wise to try and pry it apart from the seal?
