I ordered it anyway....for $29 I thought I would take the chance. I have a pump coming out of JW Jeeps on its way as well. We'll see! I just couldn't remember if the Saginaw was 1 groove or 2....frankly, the whole "power" notion is new to my jeep. :) Cheers!

That looks right to me. Let us know if it works. I need to get one ordered also because my pulley is warped.

Is it for a half inch belt?

1/2, Sir. 1/2 V. Actually, I don't have the capacity off the main crank pulley for another module/pump, so we're running a test to see if we can't run it off the same belt that goes to the smog pump (darned emissions testing)...just increase the size of the belt and down to the crank. Stay tuned....I'll let you know if it works, if so, that'll save $$$ on a new main pulley.

On the V8, the smog pump uses a small belt that runs off a double pulley on the PS pump. The PS pump belt goes around the crank, the water pump, and the PS pump. I recall that it's the same for the 258 in that era. The smog pump is an insignificant load, so no problem from that POV. Instead, I would worry that adding a 4th pulley would make the belt contact on the PS pump smaller than you'd want.

If you get belt slippage, you might try mounting the smog pump to the side or above the PS pump, and use a double pulley on the PS pump. The smog pump brackets are really simple, and your PS pump bracket (if factory equipment) likely has provision for the smog pump.

I'd be worried that the belt tension required to operate the PS pump would take out the bearings in the smog pump in short order.

The parts book says that all applications from '76 on with a smog pump use the same double pulley, PN 3226940. Unfortunately the parts book does not show a picture of the '75-on air pump mount for a 258. It does list brackets though. I owned a CA '75 258 CJ-6 long ago, and I recall that the air pump hangs off of the PS like on the V8 apps.

If you have a PS pump steel bracket, it will have a triangular corner that sticks out to support the smog pump. If not, you'll have to fabricate something.

Thanks, Tim! That's very nice of you. I actually found all the brackets I need through AMC Salvage here in town and JW Jeeps. I ordered the double groove pulley and will send back the single groove when it comes. This way I can get a small belt to run the smog pump, which is situated just the side of the PS pump on this 304. I'll post some pics when I get it all set up. Thanks again for everyone's help!

Strange, can't get to page two. Anyway, here's the pictures of the pulley on an Eagle PS pump.

Oh man I wish I saw this before I ordered one. Save it....Someone around here will need it. Those pulleys apparently are not that easy to come by. :)

The one I ordered isn't big to small, but big/big....wonder if that'll make a difference. ....

Apparently they're rarer than I thought, I was sure I had a couple. Maybe I just didn't dig deep enough.
I'm sure it will make some difference as far as air delivery to the exhaust. Whether it'll be enough to make a big difference or not is hard to say.
