Just looked this over today. The input shaft is the same spline and size (phew). But, the output shaft is 6 spline, and won't mate to my Warn OD barrel gear. I'm gonna have to get with Herm too.

if i may ask, where did you get the decal kit?

i was thinking of adding some to mine... you know... in 2022 when i get it painted mehh

is it me or do these rebuilds ALWAYS take longer than first thought?

    Thanks TexasBlues.

Here's the link http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/amc/1970jrg.htm . I was very impressed with the quality of the decal!!! They say you can use soapy water, but, I would highly advise buying their application gel (the big bottle). And layer it all over...you can not use enough of it!!! It's extra time to squee-gee the stuff out, but it's worth it when you have a large decal like this one! Also, take your time ensuring that you have marked out a line so that you can line up the whole decal. Nothing worse than a.) having a decal that is not straight, or b.) throwing the $100.00 decal in the garbage, and having to buy a new one!

    Good luck!

Herm had all the parts needed; but, I just couldn't put an old OD on a newly rebuilt drivetrain. And, just my luck, Herm had the exact Warn OD (and shifter kit) that's gonna fit the bill. I told my wife not to buy me any Christmas presents, because I'm too good at buying them for myself!!! Can't wait!!!

Also, looks like I might have to find a crossmember for the 4-speed. Good news is it might still be sitting in my buddy's yard.

Also, took the RII slotted mags in to be cleaned, and clear coated. Should be picking these up today...will be posting pics soon!

They are 31x10.50/R15's. I toyed with putting 33's on it; but wasn't positive if they would fit. I ordered my tires from tirerack.com. Great prices!!!

Pics are free - once work slows a bit and I can get out in the shop when it's above 32 (heater is not hooked up, "yet").

And just so you know - it's illeagel to work on a jeep of your own on a lift... Just sayin :D

So what do you want pics of specifically? I have the second one welded up (today) and it's a different design that the other one due to the mount on the adaptor being different. I also have early designed ones on my SM465 for ideas.

Thanks everyone for your input. I got a hold of my buddy who still has the frame sitting in his yard. Picking up the original tomorrow afternoon. This piece should complete the puzzle of the drivetrain. Next is retrofitting a Wilwood hydraulic ram for the clutch pedal, and waiting for Herm's OD to show up. Then we should be able to hook everything up and test fire the rebuilt engine.

Should I be concerned that it has been over 3 months since we coated the cylinders and valves after the rebuild?

Can anyone tell me if a D18 that was orginally mated to a T86 three speed, will work with a T98 four speed? Both were behind a 225 oddfire.

The only difference I know of is the hole diam (large or small). The bull gear should be 6 spline and you can use which ever comes with the Tcase.

    Right as rain Warloch.

Got the drive shafts back, one longer and one shorter, to accomadate the tranny size. Need to get the carb set up, and lengthen the clutch cable. I was originally going to use the Wilwood hydraulics that came with the 4 speed, but the headers got in the way of where it needs to mount.
I'm overdue for some pics...and hopefully a little video of it turning over and starting.

Getting ready for the first start. I'm thinking Rototella 30 weight with a zinc additive for the break-in of the rebuilt engine. Any suggestions? Horror stories? Hindsights?

Your build has me itching to get mine done (especially the nice paint!) Looks great!

On a side note, what shop did you have the engine machine work done at? I assume its somewhere on the western slope?

Thank you. ASF Machine in Grand Junction did the work. (970) 242-0919, ask for Joe. His knowledge is top notch; and, he's in demand by all the local race car drivers. This is a good problem, because you know you're getting a quality job; but, it takes a ton of time to get an engine through his shop.

He even admitted that the 225 oddfire was a total PIA to get the right parts. He has racks of catalogs (new and old), and he still had to call a lot of his suppliers to find out what parts were available. Some weren't even in their printed catalogs.
