F-head Engine codes

    Anyone out there have a book or knowledge of the block #'s. I have mine home now and managed to get the # of the block, up by the head on the front behind the water pump.

    RMD 71964

    Can anyone tell me year, or anything about this engine.

    According to the Cj3B page the engine is a 1954 model, (D: 0.010" undersized main bearing journals) the RM indicates its original vehicle but I cannot find mention of that letter series anywhere on the page.

    I believe the MD designates it's from an M38a1, and the R is for a Depot rebuild. The letters for bearings and bore if they came other than standard from the factory would be after the serial number.
