Is it safe to use pennzoil synchromesh in a t18 and scout dana 300? I have done several hours of research on this and i have come up with conflicting results. I can get the synchromesh locally but I am having trouble finding any GL4.

I would think it would be fine as long as the viscosity isn't too light.

"PENNZOIL® SYNCHROMESH FLUID is specifically formulated for synchromesh transmissions used by General Motors requiring General Motors Part No. 12345349 (Specification No. 9985648) Synchromesh Transmission Fluid or Chrysler transmissions requiring Part No. 4874464 (Specification MS-9224). It is also recommended for use in General Motor transmissions requiring General Motors Part No. 12345577. It is listed in the Pennzoil Lubrication Recommendation And Capacities Guide as “GLS.” PENNZOIL® SYNCHROMESH FLUID is NOT intended for all GLS applications. You must verify the manufacturer’s part number, indicated by a superscript number and found at the end of the vehicle application listing."

You can buy the "Pennzoil Lubrication Recommendation And Capacities Guide" or your supplier might have it. Personally it sounds like a hassle to determine that this fluid will work ok - esp. when Autozone or Walmart sell gallons of gear oil for less than $15.

This is expensive, but a good example: http://www.amazon.com/MULTI-PURPOSE-GEAR-OIL-85W90-SAE-QT/dp/B000VB6ZAM

I just checked at napa and all they had was a bottle that was rated gl4 and gl5 so that scared me off from buying it. The guy behind the counter could not find listed any that was just gl4. DREDnot do you have a part number?

I'm guessing this is synthetic. I do not recommend synthetic in a T-18 transmission. I've seen far too many synchronizer issues (grinding going into gear) caused by synthetic oils. Stay with the GL-4 and be happy.

Synchromesh is $$, too.. Much too thin for a T18 IMO.

I guess i need to open up my eyes. I looked right over the part number that drednot posted and did not see the number the first time. might be time for glasses. I was also thinking synchromesh was too thin for a t18. I will call napa and see if they have the above mentioned part number.

    Good Deal!

As I was driving home this evening, I was enjoying how nice and smooth shifting the trans is with that GL-4 in it.
