I am installing a painless 10105 kit im my 73 cj5. I have most everything figured out. i have done a search here on this forum and have not found what i an quite looking for. The hazard has the double sets of wire going to it. is this where i install the wires for the directionals that the harness has? I have several diagrams of the wires and think i know what color is what. Am i correct in saying that the wires go from the harness to the hazard and then the other set of wires from the haard is what feeds the sparton signal switch. the tech folks at painless have not been all that helpful. they are trying to tell me that a sparton switch was an add on component and not from the factory which i know that is bs. My dad bought this brand new and it was there when he got it. hope this all makes sence

No kidding. I bought a very expensive fuel injection system from them for my 4.0L-based stroker and they were completely useless when I had questions. Their customer service is an absolute joke and they were arrogant jerks when I pressed them for the information they didn't know. Their installation manual was incorrect and only half complete. I'm not sure I'd spend the money again even though I love the product now that I've figured out on my own what was lacking.

one of there techs i talked to about another question i had was a complete a$$. i also like there product and got a great price on it but i really expected more help than i got. I asked for a diagram for a sparton that one of the techs said that they had on their board on a post about a year ago or so and they guy i talked to denied it existed

You are on the right path.
Can I assume you have a wiring diagram out of a factory service manual?
I can't easily explain the convolutions of why the hazard and turn signal circuits are wired the way they are, but I can say that when I re-wired mine, I duplicated the way it was in the diagram and everything worked the first time.
Four sets of double wires and one single wire.

I too put this harness in my 75 CJ5.... when it came to the turn signals the connector on the harness was different from the connector on the Jeep.... Painless told me that the connnector on the harness was for a GM steering column?... I de-pinned the connector on the Jeep and on the harness.... re-inserted the wires into the Jeep connector and everything seemed to work.... I don't recall doing anything to the Hazards but I haven't tried them yet either... the turn signals work fine... the hazards? I don't know yet....

Not sure if that helps, but I hope so....

yes i have the factory wire diagram. I bought my service manual from the dealership that my dad bought the jeep from when they went out of business. DREDnot did you hook the new harness wires to one of the double wires at the hazard switch?

I'm not sure exactly what your question is about the hazard connection.

You're mixing the Painless harness diagram with the Jeep components. You will have a system with a central fuse panel and the Sparton turn signal switch. The only year that had this setup was 1975.

    Here's the 1975 wiring diagrams: http://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~reese/22_WiringDiagrams.pdf

I suggest you follow the 1975 schematic as best as you can. You're going to have to reconcile the Painless circuits with the Jeep diagram, but I expect the way they do things (in 1975) will be basically the same as the way the Painless harness is set up.

I removed and rewired the steering column connector shown at B9 of the 2nd diagram.... I haven't tried the hazard lights.... but everything else seems to work fine....

I didn't use any premade harness.
I rewired from scratch and just hooked up the circuits per the 74 diagram.
Some wires go to the individual signal lights, some go to the arrow blinkers.
One goes to the hazard flasher.

thanks for the pics and the help. I think i have it figured out now. I have all the wires hooked up anyway. i will find out when i try them i guess. If i am right i will diagram it out and post it. I am sure i have not been the only one that has had this question.

I've been working through the same issue in my wiring project on a '74 CJ5.

There was a post last year on the painless forums: http://www.painlesswiring.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1697

As it was stated in the last post:

Note that I haven't tried this yet, but it makes the most sense...

Mine work!! i got it all figured out and they worked the first time i tried them. when i get a bit more time i will diagram out how i did it and post it. it was pretty much like what you found on their forum. The tech i talked to on the phone could not even tell me that much.
