Am I reading my searches right. I found a couple of things to show that the red line on the dauntless v6 is 4400? not sure. mine has all it can do to get to 4000 but it needs a carb rebuild. I was thinking that it should have no problem going to 5000 or 5500? could be wrong.

thanks in advance for your help

I limit mine to around 4k. It will probably go to 5k+, but being a long stroke engine, it doesn't develop any more usable power after about 4500 rpms. At least that's the way it feels to me. Maybe Nickmil or Dummy will chime in here.

Peak HP (rating) is @ 5500 IIRC. Mine pulls hard through 4500, but that's where I limit it.

I've done 5000rpm in the dunes with open headers.
The 225 really responds well with open headers and the 2bbl carb.

I've had min to @ 6K, but it's not stock by any means. For most, I tell folks to limit to the 4.5 - 5K depending on condition. That gives them a margin for error.

Usually the HP falls off because the soft valve springs float and you run out of cam (I think) ... push rods will bend too, before things start to fly apart. So red line is kinda pointless for street engines, I believe. No point in going beyond the peak HP, anyway.

Weren't these (or the even-fire version) used as Indy engines for a while? If so, the bottom end should stand up to way higher revs than would ever be possible with the factory valve train.

thanks all for the help. i went to the scrap yard today to get rid of random junk from a years worth of collecting used junk and low and behold there is a jeep or amc 304 or 360 with a 2barrel carb and the factory air cleaner just laying on top of the motor. the carb was all froze up so i took the air cleaner assembly with a brand new filter and replaced the air filter th PO put on. you know one of those 4" little filters not even a cone filter. that thing now will rev its way to the moon. from the sounds of it anyways. i thought it was quite before now it just might be too loud spins freely up to 5000 and then i get scared. I never did mention it's got headers to side pipe! so the carb rebuild kit i ordered today will have to wait untill next winter or if it ever acts up again.

Thanks again everyone for your help i appreciate the great knowledge of the people on this site.
