I'm thinking of moving my electric fuel pump from just in front of the fuel tank to the bottom of the firewall, mostly for clearance issues when I add a shut off valve near the tank so I can change fuel filters without having to drain the tank. Anyone see a problem with having the pump above the frame rails a little bit and toward the front?

Other than the electric pumps are more of a pusher than puller, some are better at pulling than others. You may not have any problem with it and then you may. Just be aware.

My electric fuel pump is located on the firewall and it seems to work ok.

That looks like a similar pump. It seems powerful enough pressure wise. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

An update: I moved the pump and it seemed to work fine but last weekend the pump started running loudly. I didn't insulate the bolts and when it runs like that it's plenty loud, like when you first turn in on as it loads the carb bowl. Full tank of fuel. At times during the evening (pushing Sprint Cars) the engine would just quit running, then catch; not a good thing when you're pushing. Not sure what's going on but the pump is mounted higher than the tank, so maybe under a load it can't keep up. It's mounted in roughly the same place as J. Michael's earlier in this thread. New fuel filter, so that's not the problem.

The cutting out could also be that I've got too much advance in the distributor. There's no timing mark on the crank pulley, so I've been timing by ear. Maybe it's running out of mechanical advance. Not sure. Tomorrow I'll try setting the timing by the flywheel method I saw in the service manual or just getting #1 cylinder to TDC and pointing the rotor at the number one plug wire.

I've got an old Holley Blue pump that still runs and am thinking of trying it with a regulator but am concerned that it's too much pump for the Solex.

    Any thoughts?

I know you have the blue Holley but a red one would suit you better , the blue is higher pressure ,I'm sure you could knock it down with a regulator but,,,,,,,,,,,,
