    Hi all. The Jeep is running a little rought and am looking at new wires and dist. cap. Pulled a couple plugs and they look to be in good shape.

    Question is what spark plug should be used. The Jeep has HEI. Should I have the plugs that came stock or with HEI should the plugs be something else. Currently the plugs in it is AUTOLITE 666 (The number scares me..LOL.) Is this the correct plug I should be running? What is everyone else using?

    In my defense I did a search but didn't see this one or atleast over looked it. I was confused of some of the results. Many of the posts say it doesn't matter if you use a HEI plug or a points plug.

    Still I would be interested in knowing for those people here who run an HEI....What plug do you use, Gap (sounds like 45* is the rough standard), or any other info they would like to add.

    Thanks Sparky

    Those plugs would have to go. I'd have to have a different # on them. :shock:

    Tim: There is no "specific" HEI plug. Just use good ones.

    I have always been a fan of Bosch Platinum's--used them ever since they came out. These are for the "plain" ones and not the ones with multiple ground electrodes.

    Also, I like to stay around .040" for gap, but many go higher.

    Here's the linup: Bosch Platinum= WR9FP
    AC Delco= AC44S--new rating= R44s
    Champion= UJ12Y

    R) I had to really dig for that one. But I figured it related.

    AC Delco Rapidfires are my vote in a V6.

    Or Bosch Platinums like JPE. Actually think I have Autolite Platinums in the TJ. Can't remember.

    HELP......I have been doing a little research into the HEI world so I can better understand my Jeep. Having HEI I wanted to make sure I was running the right plugs cap,..........Reading the articles that Sparky pointed me to...Thanks Sparky.....I am at the spot where I would like to slap the PO. I have found that I have a EVEN fire distributor in my ODD fire engine. The cap has six towers instead of the 8 with 2 of them blanked and the contacts inside the distributor has 6 contacts instead of 3. The engine runs with decent power but has always missed and seemed rough. I guess this "might be the reason"
    I can not believe this. I guess I will be in the market in the future for an HEI re-upgrade.

    I just don't know what to think.

    Thanks Sparky that article gives me hope......possibly won't cost alot to redo the distributor. I noticed the cap and though..someone put the wrong cap on it...Then I looked iside the distubutor and saw the contacts.....ah!

    I can't wait to have the Jeep actually running on all the cylinders.
