I've done a few searches on the forum and online and can't find a battery tray replacement for the 72, they all seem to be for newer models. Anyone have source for a 72 or a method to adapt another year/model?

I recently refurbished a 79 tray for my 74 because of the same reason. You do have to do some minor modifications to the brackets that are on the side of the tray and rise above the battery...due to the bolts that hold the heater assembly being in the way slightly. You also may have to drill some new holes where the tray itself bolts to the firewall. But it appears to work.

There's always the "wanted" section...or you can fab one up, they don't look particularly difficult to make.

The '76 and later tray will work with some easy modifications. I have one in my CJ6.

More good info, thanks guy's. I figured the newer ones could be adapted but wasn't sure since I've never seen one. A later tray will be ordered.

the rugged ridge one I bought for my 73 was one for the newer models like everyone else is refering to. The back bracket was tall enough that I could drill the tray to fit the firewall holes.
