So last night while I was swapping out my old warn hubs for the new premium ones I bought, I noticed something strange. While taking off the front passenger wheel, the lugs loosened as usual (counter-clockwise) however when I went to the drivers side, they loosened clockwise... Is this something that is normal??? I believe my baby is an M38A1, is this something special with this model?? And how much/which type of grease should I used in the new hubs? (the directions stated they came pre-lubed but I dont know if I trust it)

    Thanks for the insight

That how it's supposed to be on the early '5s. Left side is opposite, pretty common on '50's era vehicles. More than one wheel stud has been snapped off with an impact gun by unsuspecting owners/mechanics. "Dang, that's on there...... BRAAAAAP BRRAAAAAP PING!

Yeah I almost did that with my impact wrench. Any idea about the grease for the hubs though?

Use wheel bearing grease in the bearings, but white lithium when greasing the hubs.

Mitsubishi-Fuso still did the LH thread bit in 1993 on some of their trucks.
2 Tire shops have bought me parts to fix their mistakes.

I use wheel bearing grease in the hubs, but it doesn't take much. Very little in fact.

    x2. Just a little bit.

The official WARN answer is that you use a small amount of moly grease for the locking hub mechanism.

I made the mistake of teaching a 13 yr old what a cheater pipe was years before I got the chance to explain the concept of left-hand threads on the left side.

He got to work on the '59 but I stopped him just in time.
The original studs on mine have an "L" or "R" on 'em.

Yeah, when did the manufacturers decide they didn't need to install the counter-clockwise-on lugs on cars? and why?
