I posted a few days ago about a friend of mine with a wooden (yes wooden) tubbed mud buggy. It's on a jeep frame with stock axles(30/44) and based on wheelbase I thought it was a CJ6...someone in my orignal post said it could be a commando...turns out it's a commando and based on the fact is has a D-30 front it's a '72-73.

As far as I can tell the frame is solid but other than the 'rolling' part of the jeep and the suspension and frame...NOTHING else is there...even the body mounts have been cut off.

I am thinking I can get if for VERY cheap if not free. I know commandos are fairly rare but I am considering this for a buggy build. Keep it SUA but since there would be no fenders I could run 35's give or take easily...and was thinking of a 4.0L AW4 combo from a late model XJ...or since it will be kept light enough maybe even a 4 bgnr from a YJ/TJ/XJ.

I am somewhat of a purist so it would remain jeep even if using a later model engine and drivetrain but I also thought if I do get it to put full width axles under it to make it wide and keep it lower and run even larger tires. If this was still bodied or had some of the original power train in it (it does not) I would consider it a resto project...but...?

So...would I be hated for such a thing?

Not at all, at least part of it will live on. Rare? Well maybe, but it's already gone past the point of resurrection.
