    Howdy again,

I have been doing some searching for shocks and springs. So far this looks to be the best deal (see below). Does anyone know of a better deal? I have the 400 leaf (not really 400) spring rear that came on the 55 model.

yeah, check with big dicks suspension,(BDS) very reasonable prices and they guarantee there springs for breakage. I bent one once in a non off road wreck and they replaced it free, no questions asked. Pretty sure BDS is out of tenn. if that closer than oklahoma

Thanks for the help guys. Bob only had a 2 1/2 lift kit set for my Jeep. I am not sure that I want to lift the Jeep that much and have small tires (31 inch is what it says you can fit under a lift of this nature.) I do not want to stress the little 4 banger too much, and I think that if I put 31s on there an overdrive unit would be useless.

    Is this false thinking?

Bob did give me another number, and then then gave me another number that led to this kit. (see below)

What are your thoughts on this kit? I do not think that it is the same rear spring that I have (see really bad photo below).

I've been looking into springs for my '56 and like you didn't want a lot of lift. I called Bob and he suggested superlift since the rancho 1" are no longer available. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but buying from 4wheelparts seems like the best deal since you can get free shipping to a local store. Here are links to a kit (that comes with more than shown it the picture so be sure to read the description) and to the springs only.

    Tom,

I just got off of the phone with the guys you were talking about. This may sound dumb, but I am trying to put this thing back as close to factory as I can. The superlift kit does not have as many leaves and it does not come with the U bolts that hang the springs from the rear of the frame.

They looked up a more period kit and it was over $900. The kit I posted only has $15 in shipping to my door. Additionally, they have a lot of other parts I am looking for and I may buy a few other things from them while I am at it. That is unless someone jumps in and says to stay away from these folks or their products.

Wow, $15 shipping! Are you close to them or something? I figured buying springs would involve extra freight type shipping charges, etc. I will strongly consider that kit too if I can get that deal. Keep me posted.

I've bought quite a few things from them (haven't bought springs though) and have had good experiences. $15 shipping sounds really good for something as heavy as springs!

Have you ridden in a Jeep with stock 10 or 12 leaf springs? Better hold onto your hat, it's liable to bounce off. After driving one for 20+ years, all I can say is be careful what you wish for. No one will fault you for having less leaves, unless your adding a trencher or such.

That's what my '56 had when stock. Also had PTO and front counterweight, and it DID NOT FLEX. Any large bump at any speed would launch you out of the seat.

My question is WHY? Good lord that is a lot of spring. If they were not cracked (and how the heck they got cracked is beyond me) I would use them in my 3/4 ton Ford.

Ordered today! Free shipping. I asked for a discount and was told that the springs were already discounted, but I did get 10% on some LED tail lights, steering wheel, and a few other bits. 2-3 days shipping!

Is that the one you posted about from kaiserwillys? I saw that and want to get some opinions on that and the superlift kit before I decide for sure. It will be awhile, though.

Mine's going to be just a pavement queen (as wrong as that as is, LOL), so I want the best ride possible....IF possible :D

Yes, I ended up going with the kaiserwillys kit because it was a more complete kit for the same money. I doubt that I will be ready to bolt everything up when it comes in, but I will take a few snap shots for you if you wish.

I ended up going with the KW kit too (thanks Khalampre). Got free shipping, springs showed up in 4 days, the rest of the parts about 4 days later. My 56 had the C type shackles on it which I was under the impression were original. The kit came with modern style shackles even though the picture clearly showed the C type. Didn't really matter to me, but I called anyway to see what was up. KW insists no CJ5 came with the C style, so I am not sure what is up with what I had originally.

I installed it all today. Lifted the front a little less than 2 inches and the back a little more than a inch. I am happy with the results.

I'll be putting new springs and shocks on both of ours soon, so I'm looking for some feedback. Still happy with these?

Also, nice roll cage! Is that custom or a kit? If kit, where'd you get it.

Good looking jeep, thanks for the post!

And just ordered new springs (Moss) and rebuilt shocks (Worldwide) for the MG. We're looking forward to smooth cruisin' for the whole fleet!

Yes, I am still happy, but I haven't had it out on the trail yet with the new springs. Just driving it around the neighborhood, I notice it doesn't lean near as much around turns (which I like). I should have it out in the next month or so, I'll keep you posted.

Rollbar is a custom homemade. Thanks for the complements!
