I own a 55' CJ5 with a 53' M38a1 windshield and it didn't come from the factory with sun visors and I would like to install a set, my questions is what type, location on the windshield and how to mount them properly.

I have found there were two types of visors, one has a "J" mount while the other has an "L" mount. The "L" mount seems to be for the older models with wipers on top of the windshield, they seem to have deeper clearance. But I've seen the "J" mount on both windshield styles. The "J" model seems to be much easier to find. I've heard all type of horror stories about this type that they will fall down in your face when you hit the brakes or when the top is off the flop down.

Location? Where are they located on the windshield? Don't want to drill extra holes in the WS if not needed.

Mounting? How were they mounted by the factory? I found an article, on line, where the guy drilled out a large hole and used a threaded sleeve with carriage bolts to secure them, that seems to be an over kill.

What can you tell me to help?
