Just bought a basket 1971 V6 Jeep. Engine is all together but distributor is missing. Local parts houses are telling me they can't get me one. I don't want to start an engine rebuild before I locate the necessary parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Engine has 33,000 miles, body is in good shape as well as the running gear. Engine had a burnt valve and last owner lost some parts while doing the valve job. Jeep has been setting for the past 6 years.

I would try another part house, you can get it. Maye look for a 68 jeep. There are 2 differnt kinds of distributers used for the 225 but i think you can use either one. The better being the Delco. Or maybe do the HEI conversion and be ahead of the game.

Napa has rebuilt oddfire distributors. Not sure if you are asking for one for an odd or evenfire engine. IIRC do a search on their website for a 67ish buick special. Around $25 with core charge. Let me know if you dont find one.

    MB,
I wouldn't put out the money for a new points type distributer. As Dan suggested go get a HEI distributer.
Do a search here & check the tech section.
And check out Cape Conversions. http://www.driveajeep.com/main/page1.html
Junkyard, Cape, DUI, NAPA, etc., etc.
    And welcome.

HEI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i still kick myself for not putting one of the cape conversion ones in sooner, i was afraid of the cost at first but man what a difference. if you really dont want to go with hei, i might be persuaded to give you my oldone. the points and eveything were in fine shape when i pulled it off. i was gonna keep it incase the hei install went bad

Montana: If you have no dist., definitely go HEI. The Cape Conversions are excellent, but not the cheapest. Many here have tried rebuilds from the parts houses and have not have good luck with them.

So my advice is to go straight to an HEI and a good set of 8mm wires and "forgett-abou--it".

BTW, welcome from Havasu. Every weekend they have CAS at the local range here. Always wanted to get into that--lottsa fun. :)

    Montana Brown,

Push all thoughts of distributors out of your mind. Do the Cape Conversions HEI. Much simpler to install and set up. No points and condenser to set, better performance. If you do as we have suggested, your happiness will be enhanced! This is the easiest and cheapest performance step you can take. And you don't have a distributor anyway, so the initial installation is the same. You will thank us.

If you dont want to go hei, I got a perfectly good Delco distributor with recent cap wires rotor points installed. I did the hei conversion and its just sitting on the shelf. Lemme know.
