Last summer I rebuilt my 258 amc motor and clutch in my 74' cj5.... for the last month I can feel the throwout bearing through the clutch pedal. It feels like a dry bearing and occasionally a high pitch squeal. my question is can the bearing be greased through the service plates on the bell housing of the tranny? and is axle grease the correct grease?

These are sealed and cannot be greased. Must be replaced.

that would explain why I dont remember greasing it. how about where the clutch fork and bearing touch, does that get grease?

No because that part of the bearing does not rotate.

yeah it doesnt rotate but could be helpfull to put some grease on the shaft the help the bearing to move on the shatf. But you will need to change the bearing. It's not a very difficult repair to do but take some time...
