I want to confirm something please.. I have searched and have read this a couple times threw the years, however it seems to get thrown back and forth!
    I have 2 Spicer 18's setting here!
One is a from a pickup and has long sticks and a larger center shaft!
has 18-15-18 and 12a-1 on rear of it!

The other is from a 2A and has a small center shaft!
has just 12-1 on thetail end!

The larger center shaft is the lower 2.46 t-case??? correct!

Not including the earlier MB, GPW military.....
All D-18 with 1-1/8" intermediate shaft are 2.43 ratio and are of pre 1954-1/2 vintage.
All D-18 with 1-1/4" intermediate shaft are 2.46 ratio and are of post 1954-1/2 vintage.
This 1954-1/2 change was the result of Dana's first attempt at producing the "SILENT TYPE" transfer case.
The "SILENT TYPE" (model 20) transfer case became a reality in 1962.

    Thank you!
That is not enough change in ratio to worry about!
I was under the undersanding it was a wider gap than that!
Yes one is the 11/4 and the other is the 11/8

Ken's right regarding ratio's and shaft size, etc. That's assuming nothing has been changed. For example you can put the 26 tooth input gear tooth count gear set (2.43-1 1 1/8" intermediate shaft) in a case that uses the 1 1/4" intermediate shaft and vice verse, so unless you know the complete history of the transfer case, don't assume because it has a 1 1/4" intermediate shaft it is the 2.46-1 or 29 tooth input gear set. I've run into lots of them that have been changed. Heck, I've changed them out for customers on lots of occasions....
