Im doing a saginaw steering conversation in my 70 cj5. Looking for some ideas about how to mount the column to the floor board/ fire wall. Im keeping the column that came in the jeep for the look and got a dj shaft but no outer tube. any pics of ideas would be helpful. thanks

I have used a exhaust pipe clamp to mount steering columns in the past.

Make a couple of brackets from some angle iron, fit the exhaust clamp and its "U" bolt to the brackets, and then bolt the brackets to the underside of the floor.

The outer tube is held in place with the "U" bolt of the exhaust clamp.

    Sorry, no photo.

    This how I did mine.
    4" square plate 1/8" thick and a 1 3/4" shaft collar.
Added a extra set screw to the collar,
Drilled a 1 7/8" hole in the plate, welded the collar to the plate.
4 3/8" holes in the corners.

    Andrew, that is way cool.

I wonder how well it will work if the column is not normal to the floorboard?
