I'm tired of screwing around with the jacked up wiring harness for my '73 cj-5. When I get the time and fund's I wil replace the entire thing, But right now I just need to get the horn to work.

Is that close to being right? I've searched google and read the FSM and as far I can tell this is all that is really to a basic system, right? :?

    Thanks in advance, Don

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the 73 is the same as the 74.

Your diagram is pretty much accurate except that it has hot 12V from the battery to the horn and the horn button just grounds the circuit.

There should be a fuse between the battery and the horn.

Personally (30+ years experience electricity) I would put the fuse between the battery and the horn button (this protects ALL of the wiring). fuses prevent wires from melting and starting fires.

Your diagram is ELECTRICALLY correct, but a lot of manufacturers DO use switches for "grounding" instead because it is more cost effective.

Your setup will work just fine, just put a fuse in it SOMEWHERE!!!!!!

Do you have the factory horn?

Check your horn. If it has two terminals on it they should be marked + and -. As said the positive goes to battery W/Fuse (preferred) and the negative will have a wire going to the horn button. The button does the ground bit. Now if you have a single terminal horn then that will have to be fed with 12V from a relay (usually) and the ground from the horn is supplied by it's mounting bracket.

There should be, but just not from the factory.
