OK... this is the really newbie guy - never had a jeep before but I bought a '65 CJ a few weeks ago and now I'm learning a lot of the stuff the fun (hard) way.

    First of many stupid questions...

I have two sticks coming from the the floor - one is obviously to change gears (figured that one out), but the other... fwd on the floor near the passengers side. What is it? Part time 4x4? Hi/Low?

I've looked at images of other Jeeps and the shifter seems to be closer to the stick shift but mines is way up forward? I've looked through the threads but since it's such a stupid question I haven't found an answer yet.

Also - anybody know where I can get an owners manual for this Jeep?? I've looked on eBay, but nothing comes up.

    Thanks!

Is yoursa v6 model or 4 cylinder?
The v6 models had a single slightly curved lever with a large knob on it where you described, it adjusts the hi/low and 2x4/4x4 functiosn of the transfercase.

I purchased my service manual from
    http://www.faxonautoliterature.com/
Probably not the cheapest but it is an excellent reprint.
You can also put a want to buy in the classified section or just watch for one for sale.

You don't really want an owners manual, you want a service manual and Haynes and Chiltons don't count, period!!

Go here and make sure to order the one appropriate to the year and engine.

How do you know he doesn't really want an owners manual? If I didn't have my original I'd probably have looked for one..

before you put many miles on it its always a good idea on a newly aquired jeep to check or change all the fluids in the axles tranny and transfer case

...yes, it is a V6, and thanks for the decal image - makes sense now.

Thanks to all; I'll pick up the service guide and the owners manual!
