Looking to put an offy dual plane intake on my Jeepster with a 225.
What carb would be the best for this. I will be updating the exhaust soon.
Other than a Hei. Everything is stock. Trying to get a little more out of the 225 to warrant keeping it than dumping a v-8 in it.

The old 2300 series 2 barrel-- like a 350 cfm Holley two barrel is pretty good--or even a larger Holley 500 cfm . But the floats on 2300 series are not too good off road. The stock Rochesters are better off-road than the Holleys. But the Holley is very good on the street. But I am sure that some other Dauntless owners on this board have some good alternatives ideas too.

I am assuming that you put a 4bbl Offy on... I run the Holley 390's and have been real happy with them. I had an Edelbrock 500 but had issues tuning it once the engine got a milder cam in it. Others like the Edelbrock 500 and have had success with them. Kinda depends on your know how, but keep with the small cfm carbs.

Yeah Its a 4 barrell offy. Square bore. I was going to use a quadrajet but it was too much of a pain. Ive heard that the holley 390 works good but small passages will plug. So I now I am looking at the edel 500cfm, but I dont know if that is too much cfm. I know a guy running a 500 on a 4.3 liter and once he jetted it down it worked for him, but he used the smallest jets that edel makes.

Heck, look at the front page, there's a link to 4bbl carb information there right now...

smiggley: The Q-jet is an excellent carb for the 225, but it is a spreadbore. They were used on the high perf. 225 marine engines for Mercruiser. Now, remember boats bounce a LOT! When I was in college, I worked for my uncles boat shop and did many a tune up on them. But they aren't used anymore so they are sort of like "hen's teeth". :( IIRC, they were about 350-450 cfm.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those manifolds and carbs.

i just went through this whole thing, asking the same question:

what i found was that as far as 4bbl goes 390cfm is about as much as you wnat (although bigger has been done ie: see front page about 500cfm) holly is coming out with their 450cfm truck avenger carb soon, but i think thats still to big, what i decided to do was keep my holly 390 and rebuild it. when i rebuild it i will also order from holly their spring loaded needled kit which will run about 34 bucks for the two of them ($17 each) holly told me that this setup would be great and they said doing that they wouldnt waste the money on a new truck avenger carb. i am also going to get rid of my non working elec choke and go back to a manual choke setup.

This topic has been discussed before - you'll find some good info if you search.

Downey shows a 2300-350 with a center pivot float bowl. I don't know what axis the mounting on a Toyota is, but a center pivot is intended for flat track racers with lots of lateral Gs. A side pivot float worked better uphill and downhill on my 304. Side pivot is the usual configuration for stock carbs. Center pivot could be better on side-hill, but the usual problem with Holleys is flat spots or flooding on steep uphill/downhill.

You can fix the vent height so that gas doesn't flood out, add slosh tubes to the jets, use a spring loaded float (to dampen float bounce), and probably others.

The 20R Weber might work ...
