I just got a grill guard (bug shield) from Napaguy (thanks!) but now realize I don't know how they mount to the grill. I've seen photos where it looks like there is a bolt or tie that goes through the guard and attaches to a tab or something on the grill behind.

I was thinking of making it easily removable but I guess that's not necessarily important. I've mounted removable radiator screens on race cars but those were under the body work and appearance wasn't an issue. Any ideas?

What kind is it? Is it one of those aftermarket ones with all the little round holes? Bug Off I'm thinking is the name.

Good short-term solution but after a while they get brittle and break.

Use small stainless steel sheet metal screws, that's what I did with mine. I used 4.

i have only seen the back side of one, that being said i will try to describe how it attached. it had a deal mounted on the back side kinda like a broom holder, and i believe it had 4 of these (1 in each corner) they simply snapped over your grille slats. they looked to me like they would be hell on the paint job though. i guess you could wrap the grille where it snaps over with tape or a innertube or something of that nature......

What do the screws fasten into? Are holes drilled in the grill and nuts used or does it use some sort of tab (I can't think of the proper term) between the grill uprights? I'm thinking of something like a "toggle" from a toggle bolt.

At this point, messing up the paint isn't an issue but will be once I paint it. :) But I would think metal wear might be an issue sooner or later. Interesting idea, though. Maybe some hard plastic thingie instead of metal.

Can you use snaps? Or twist fasteners?

We use a lot of grille covers around here (solild fabric, not the bug screen kind) due to the cold weather.

I duno...... i kinda like the toggle bolt idea myself. the grille in my JD tractor sits in two slots at the bottom with a spring connected up top. may could do something like that. its pretty darn secure too...

I change them out annually. No issues and no holes.

Since both the guard and grill are solid objects, snaps might work, as opposed to the soft tops and metal body where the top material changes over time and the snaps don't always line up. That's a good maybe on the twist fasteners.

I'm probably over-thinking this because once it goes on, it'll most likely stay there for a while, unlike when I used them on race cars where they needed to be removed and cleaned every week or so.

Holes drilled into the grill uprights. That's why I said sheet metal screws. ;) The kind KW is talking about is what used to be available aftermarket, maybe through dealers?

You might consider using some of the new, last 20 years, super-magnets. Some are available with holes in them and the sizes vary greatly. They are magically strong.
