75 CJ5 258/6 HEI with Optima redtop battery. New wires, plugs, rotor and module...all Echlin/NAPA. Also original Carter YF one barrel.Runs like a champ !

My question......been pretty cold here in Atlanta lately and in the early a.m. with temps in the teens, outside the garage, the jeep is a little slow in starting.

With fully charged battery, the starter is a little sluggish. I seem to have heard that if you retard or advance the timing a bit, it can help with this issue. Anybody familiar with this suggestion and, if so, any tips ?

    Thanks.

Advanced timing can make an engine sluggish on startup. I'd have to think your temps have more to do with it than timing. What weight oil are you running? Have you checked your connections at the battery? Connections at the starter? I'd check these before starting to mess with the timing.
