A few more shots of the progress, cut and welded the rear rollcage support plates, cut out the rust in the sandwich plates on the rear cross member mounts and re welded them back together, last thing to do on the underneath is the wheel arches, very little here mostly just a clean and a small repair to the outer most body mounts, so hopefully all going well at the end of the weekend she will be right side up :icon_super:

Feel like I have accomplished something today, I have finally finished the work to the underneath of the Jeep, last jobs were to cut off the rusted rear mounts and weld on new ones then clean and primer the wheel arches, this I achieved today, I have 4 patches of rust along the body side and I'l attack these befoer I turn the jeep right way up but other than that I'm happy with the progress and looks of the project so far.

    A few pics from today

I started cutting and welding the rust on the sides, finished the drivers side which wasn't to bad, so I started on the passengers side and you know the old saying if you look for it you'll find it well I did and I found rust lots of it, burried under about 1/4" of filler, I've started to cut it out and repair the section but to try and keep some sort of profile to work from I'm doing it in stages.

Here's some pics of the progress so far:

You look to be doing a good job of the stages. I like to pull all the bondo off - I would prefer wavy metal to smooth bondo, but thats just me.

So I finished cutting out the rust from the sides today and welded in the new panel, that should be all the rust within the tub, now its time to flip it right side up and cleanup the inside floor

Right its been a while since I've made a progress update, mainly due to work all of a sudden going crazy but its not good when that eats into garage time, so I stripped the inside clean, mainly due to bad paint and wanting a good surface for the bed linner, this also allowed me to check for rust which a found surface rust under the paint, hard work but all in all worth it, I then decided on renewing the way the tailgate closed as I didn't like the original setup, the new way works a treat and shouldn't rattle like the old one would have.

I like the way you did the tailgate latch. Haven't seen on like that in a long time on old farm equipment.

So I've been pottering around in the workshop these last few days doing bits on the body and then when I've got fustrated with that doing a little mechanical work, I have stripped the steering column and found that the bottom bushing was totally knacked (well actually not there at all) so I figured I best make a new one, found a nice piece of nylon rod in the workshop and turned one up on the lathe, problem sorted, now a nice steedy shaft. I then started on the removal of the old steering box (nightmare) pitman arm to draglink tierod end seized, spent ages on it but eventually it gave way, so I unbolted the frame adapter and then rebolted it back to my new power steering box, nice simple fix, I have to make new hoses but thats not a problem and will have to modify the steering shaft as the top UJ is a different type to my steering column, again not major.

Heres a few pics of what I'm talking about

Started on the body filling, decided I may as well start on the worst panel first, here's the progress so far

The original dash had been hashed by previous owners and was beyond repair so guess what, time to make another, here is my blank canvas I have a design done in CAD so hopefully I'll get it finished this weekend

    Ok more on the dash,

wanted a glovebox, and a decent size one as there is no other storage on the Jeep, so time to build,

First off I designed it in CAD, then transfered this onto the steel

I then cut the steel using a air powered shears (really good)

Parts ready for bending and welding

Again another chance to use my bender

Unfortunatley I don't have a pic of the welded unit before assembly but I started mocking up the layout of the dash on some masking tape

And then the final shot of the welded in glovebox, just need to tidy it up a little and make the front door
