I'm going to upgrade the steering on my 53' M38a1to Saginaw steering and been trying to find an alternative to cutting a hole into the crossmember.

I've read that using a 69'-71' Jeepster steering box mount will lower it enough to avoid the crossmember is this correct?

    Is there an alternative?

I've also read they are cast metal, so does that make them a weak link?

I read through the old posts. I see that I needed to update my pictures.

I too, mounted my box below the cross member. Keep in mined that you will need a 2 1/2" lift for this to work.

I'm in the process of lifting it 2 1/2" (Rocky-Road Conversion CJ to YJ Springs) as well as converting it to Saginaw... I think I need to lift if first than adapt the steering to what's left of the front frame.

Big props to this site! Every time I research a problem on my own I can never find the answers but once I post a question or a problem on this site it is answered with in an hour!
Within just a few hours I found the steering mount that I need as well as the guy that makes them, Mcruff! What more could you ask for? Thanks to the whole earlycj5.com community!
