    leaf spring questions

I am thinking of modifying my superlift 2 1/2" springs. These springs have the military wrap on them. they are also very stiff. I am thinking of completely removing the militray wrap leaf completely from the pack, redoing the clamps to make them looser, shortening a couple of the other springs and then putting teflon pads between the springs. I know this sounds like a lot of work but these springs are paid for and I dont have the cash to drop on a different set.

Does anybody see a problem with what i have planned and do you all think the spring will still be strong enough without the military wrap leaf in it?
I am also not worried about loosing lift. I have a body lift on it for a couple of reasons but i am not going to get into that discussion.

Personally I'd remove some of the shorter leafs and leave the military wrap leaf. Those are commonly installed to combat spring wrap and when removed can cause spring wrap issues, cracking of the main leaf, etc.

I swapped to the wider leafs on mine and did a spring over lift a few months ago. The springs were lift springs so I removed a short leaf from the front and 2 small ones from the rear which took about an inch out and made a pretty significant difference in the ride/flex. But that said, removing the shorter leafs increases the likely hood of breaking the longer leafs when roughing them up, and this is particularly true with the narrow 1.75 wide leafs. So, I would start with removing a short leaf or two and see how that works.

well i cant loose the body lift. My exhaust is to close to the body and i dont want to have to cut up the floor any more to make the tranny and transfer case fit. I allready dropped the case 1''. It will also make it easer to wash mud out. Right now as it sets i have room for at least 35'' tires. I only really want to run33's. I guess i can go with re doing the clamps to loosen them up some and maybe taking out a shorter leaf or even shortening up each individual leaf a bit.

I would agree with the other people about the springs. Personally, to do everything on a budget, I would drop 1-2 short leafs per pack and depending on if it sat too low for you after that, go get or make a set of longer shackles. I did a spring over with stock toyota springs, with 6" shackles (total length) and it is only about 2 inches taller then when I had my 2.5" lift and 1.25" shackles.
