greetings. i have traded my bro n law out of the hard cab on his '74 cj5. on the left side of the tub right above where the fuel filler would be on the earlier cj5 is a small piece that is screwed to the tub. it follows the contour of the top of the tub & it is held on with two screws. it is about 10" or so long. it looks to me it's function would be to space the tub side out to provide a smooth surface for the door to seal against. does this sound logical? if it is part of the top i need to remove it before the jeep gets off, but want to make sure before i remove it. thanks for any help!

Yes, it's part of the top. It lets the door seal, as you surmised. Be sure to get it - you'd have a hard time finding a replacement. :driving:

I agree with what Timgr said. I have one in the garage and have been hanging onto it for over 10 years....
I'll finally get to use it in a year or two:)

The one I have is the first one I've seen in person and most people haven't even heard of such a thing.

I found one on ebay years ago. Not sure why I bought it or put it on (maybe because it was only a couple bucks) :)
    Here's a non- current pic..
