I had a little more time today for disassembly- the front end is off completely. The left fender is in good shape, and the firewall of the tub looks real good. I haven't uncovered any visible frame issues so far. I didn't realize that the frame was boxed toward the front, I know my '71 wasn't like that.

Looks like your moving right along Darren. There's a Jeep junk yard in New London(close to Charlotte), you should be able to find your fender there. Reasonable prices too. My dad got a tub, fenders, grille, and good 225 radiator, all for $200. Call me if you want info & directions.

I still need to get up with ya sometime. Between working Saturdays and going out of town I haven't had much free time. Hopefully soon though!

Thanks man, I'm sure I'll be going down there when the time comes. At that price, it might be worth buying a donor tub for the panels I need to replace.

I know what you mean. I don't have much free time for a couple more weeks, but after that I'll have weekends free, and I'm anxious to get this thing apart and in the garage before it gets cold. I'm planning on buying an engine stand, but I'm hoping to find someone who has a cherry picker that they might not mind bringing by, so I don't have to buy one right now.

I had a good bit of time this weekend to work on the Jeep, and I made a lot of progress on taking everything apart. The tub is almost ready to come off, I just need to get the e-brake cable disconnected, and find a couple sturdy neighbor kids to help me lift it.

I am happy with the condition of things, the more I dive into this. The dash is pristine, for example. The driver's side floor has been patched before and is still not that great, so I'm thinking about doing the whole front floor. The area around the tranny opening isn't great either. I've heard people say that you can buy floor pieces with the hat channel already attached, I'd love to go that route if someone does sell floor pieces like that. Anyway, here are some pics of how it looks now. I'm starting to think that the original yellow that is showing through might be a good color option.

( I'm starting to think that the original yellow that is showing through might be a good color option.)

My 1970 had the same yellow under the dash and on the bottom of the tub. I asked my Dad about it, and he said when he bought it new off the lot that it was orange. I asked around and was told that this was factory sealer, not paint.

Thanks Jim, you said it right- for an East coast Jeep.

Rozcoking23, the color under the dash and stuff is a kind of green yellow, and there's more of a canary yellow showing through under the peeling rattle can paint job on the tub. I don't know for sure that it's the original color or not though... I mean it is 37 years old :)
