    how to decode? tuxedo?

I have a 64 cj5 in my shop, it appears to have all of the tuxedo exterior options, chrome hinges, latches, bumpers etc. it also has snaps where the cushions would go on the rear fender wells. are tuxedos rare enough that they should be kept stock? the owners intention was to resto-mod....any feed back would be great.

    Re: how to decode? tuxedo?

If it's complete with all or most of the Tux stuff my opinion is to keep it stock. If the owner wants to upgrade safety stuff then I can see that. If it's been hacked or most of the stuff is missing then it's another Early CJ. Of course it is the owner's Jeep and he can do what he likes, but it would be a shame to hack something that can be hard to find if original and complete. Not too many out there....

I posted this "over there" on the cj tech forum, I apologize if I am being redundant or not using the site properly...I will be working on a one owner low miles, pretty solid 64 flat 4. Now the fact that we thought was a 68 and now I think might be a tuxedo optioned 64 cj5 is making me question what we might or might not want to do to this thing. Are the tuxedos rare? the serial number does not tell me 100% but it has all the chrome options...any help or thoughts?

Well I would not call the Tux "RARE" but they are certainly hard to find in good and better condition. Pic's would help a lot plus the vin # (serial number) off the frame at right front (top) just behind front wheel at rear spring hanger.

Well I think the pull controls for the heater are post 66. Guess the heater box and controls could have been swapped from a newer model.

I wondered about the heater controls, the radio and the ash tray...the serial number does work out to be a 64. built between December 63 and January 64 according to info I found on this site. I have an idea of what the customer wants, and how I can achieve that, I was/am unclear on the rarity of the tuxedo package. There has been some talk of eventually turning this into a bird hunting jeep.... Cut off the back add dog boxes elevated seats etc. I feel that with the info i have gained, we should steer him away from that.
