The guy offeriing it to me wants $85 plus shipping which I still think is a rip off but he has it and I don't so what do you do besides complain and pay it?

Well, like I said, I sold the last one I had for more than that and the guy who bought it was more than happy to even find one. I've paid almost that much in the past for them for myself.
If you feel it's a ripoff don't buy it. It's called the law of supply and demand. When something is scarce and in demand the price goes up. If you can wait then you may find a better deal. If you can't wait, then you pay what the market requires you to pay.

Had you decided to go with a regular Saginaw set up then this wouldn't have been an issue. I like Herm, known him for close to 20 years, but this is one of the reasons I don't like this power steering conversion.

    You have 3 basic choices:

    1) Pay the asking price for the pump and bracket you need

    2) Wait and try and find a better deal and maybe miss out on this one or maybe get a better deal

    3) Change directions and go to regular Saginaw Steering and sell the Herm setup, probably at a loss.

FWIW, this is one of the deciding factors for me not using Herm's setup.

$85 and shipping is pretty decent. I paid that a couple of years ago. As said, these set ups are getting harder to find and they work quite nicely.

Up until a couple of days ago and finally finding this setup I was ready to change directions and go with a saginaw setup and still may. I went out and got a saginaw gear box have the 2 piece, low mount, pump set up. BUT I have the new tie rods his set up and like you said hate to take a loss on a setup that appears to work IF I can get this problem behind me. I will know for sure which way I'm going after I get this bracket and it bolts on clears my gear box and did I also say that my steering shaft clears my exhaust manifold. I will keep you in the loop as more details develop.
