I'm having carb trouble also. Except mine is an idle issue. I just disassembled my carb and from what I gather the larger ball for the accellerator pump goes in the discharge of the pump. I rebuilt this carb last year and put the large ball in the suction side. Almost didn' t get it out. Smaller ball seems to fit better in the suction. Might be something to look at. Don't know if it will help but thought I. Would throw it out there

    Re: Need Carb help

Thanks Ken, if his carb is on a 50's cj3a would that be a non emission carb? Mine is #7027082 which is an emission carb if I checked right. Not much on carburetors but I'm trying.

Please do not hijack other people's threads.

It's rude and creates confusion in the thread and it makes us have to do work around here splitting threads. :D

Since the '53 didn't come with a V6 in it that doesn't matter.

What did the engine come out of? That will tell you about emissions or non-emissions carbs.

You might consider looking at the distributor instead.
Bad or broken springs or sticking weights in the advance mechanism would cause these problems also. Or a busted diaphragm in the vacuum part of the advance, which would also give you a fair sized vacuum leak.

And knowing which 2G is on the motor does matter.
There are at the least three different sizes of them.

One of the Holley two barrels will bolt directly in place of the 2G, but I cannot remember which one.

    MHO, that's all.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse anyone or hijack. Just trying to help. Sometime I get to talking over my head.

Before I did anything drastic I'd pull the venturi cluster and spray some carb cleaner down through the ports. You're looking to get flow through the ports on the intake side of the butterflies. This is the idle circuit. They flow fuel when the butterflies are closed and commonly become plugged when the carb has set for a long time.:v6:
