    Question,
eventually I plan on towing my 1970 cj5 behind my motorhome, my jeep has a t14 with the dana 18 w/an overdrive. Is it as simple as putting the trans. and t-case in neutral and I am good to go, the reason I ask is that I have heard of some people dropping the drive shaft. And is there any other tips on towing my cj5.:flag:

Safest way is to remove the rear drive shaft and unlock the hubs. No fear of things dropping into gear. But this is my personal opinion.

I tow mine all the time by just making sure the hubs are unlocked, and everything is in neutral. However when I go on long camping trips, and haul stuff in the jeep while its being towed, i drop the drive lines just in case something shifts around in the jeep and accidently hits the shifter.

At least drop the drive shaft, my sister had her toyota engine blow up when the tv shifted in the cab and put the truck in 1st gear, talk about getting exited smoke and steam everywhere.Thought we had a fire, it lasted about 5 miles at 60+ mph ~10000 RPMS that little truck just could not keep up.
It was being towed by truck with a dolly.
Bottom line is, had bad do you want to rebuild the engine:)

    I agree with mb82!
Even with the front hubs unlocked and the rear driveshaft in place, the front axle and driveshaft are turning with the neutral transfer case position (single D18 shifter).
I always disconnect my rear driveshaft for flat towing.

Put Herm's full floater axle conversion in the rear then you'll have hubs on the back to disengage. Down side your drive shaft e-brake won't work when the hubs are disengaged.:)

I didnt know Herm had those conversions! Guess I will have to start saving some pennies. Herm is always the go-to guy for things you cant find anywhere else.

I am going to order his master cylinder conversion for the 69 i just bought. I could fab it, but heck, he already has!

I flat tow mine all the time-for shorter trips, I just put the TC in neutral and go, if it's a longer trip I'll pull the rear driveshaft-mostly to reduce drag and wear and tear.

Don't know how some of you guys drop your drive lines, but thought I would share a method we used.
We would disconnect at the pumpkin on both ends. We had a sleeve made from some light tube that slid over the ends of the drive shafts and compressed them (some room inside as well). The sleeve had a bracket that hooked via a bolt to a metal tab fabed under the jeep so we just bolted the sleeve with the shaft in it to the bracket to hold it up and keep it out of the way. This made it easier to hook and unhook things for the longer trips.

Now days - I just put it on a trailer, or turn out all 4 hubs.

If you are talking about the dual mc conversion a 69 should already be a dual. At least mine was.
