Question, My 1970 cj5 has double shocks at each wheel, was that an option in that year or did a previous owner add the second shock. i would think with todays technology with springs and shocks 2 are not needed, the problem i have is the custom stainless fenderwells are designed to accept 2 shock and it would look odd if i only ran with 1 shock. any thoughts

Yes, aftermarket stuff. Mimics the Baja racers ... likely from the era when that was most popular.

Ya, thats what I thought. I am still trying to get it on the road so I haven't got a chance to drive it yet, I already thru away the old shock, they were toast. I plan on replacing all of my springs, one has lost some of its arc and I am sure thay are stock spring which will most likely require a kidnee belt while driving. I am going to put on softer springs and go ahead and stay with the double shocks, if anyone thinks that is not the way to go please say so. once I get it on the road it will see mostly medium off road trails, no rock crawling or anything that drastic.

Be careful which shocks you get to double up. Have heard that the Rancho 5000's that I bought are already quite stiff for a short wheelbase. Two might be too much.
