What would be involved in mating a Buick 225 to a 1978 cj7 t18 dana20 combo? And will the spicer 18 bolt up where the Dana 20 is ?
    Thanks rich

    Unknown. And yes.

How much of the T-18 and its pieces do you have? It's a desirable piece to a late CJ owner. If you have the bellhousing and assorted clutch bits, it's will bolt up to an AMC engine.

I can't tell you if it will work because I don't know how long the input shaft is for that transmission. It has a unique bellhousing, so the stickout might be a standard length and it might not. If the stickout length is the same as the Ford T-18s, then you can machine a GM bell to fit. If it's the length of the earlier CJ T-18s, then you'll have to make a plate adapter. In either case, you'll have to figure out the clutch parts yourself.

You can adapt a Ford T-18 to a GM bell with comparative ease. Novak has a page about that. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ford_to_gm.htm With an input shaft swap and some bell machining, you can adapt a Jeep truck T-18 to a GM bell too.

The easiest route would be to sell the '78 Jeep T-18 and adapt a Muncie SM420 or SM465 to the 225.

The shortest T18 maindrive gear (input shaft) used by AMC iin Jeeps yeilds a 7-1/8" long stickout length.
That is simply too long for mating directly into the 6-3/8" deep Dauntless bellhousing.
Obviously you could have a maindrive gear custom machined to a shorter lenght.
The JEEP version of the T18 can also be mated directly onto the Dauntless bellhousing by installing a Ford maindrive gear.

Ken, how do you know that the '77-78 CJ T-18 does not have the short stickout of the T-150 and T-176? Certainly the bellhousing is different from the 7.125" stickout transmissions, which use a T-15 bell and plate adapter.

    Tim,
I just found this AA PDF: https://secure.advanceadapters.com/images/uploads/product_files/20100811163814_Jeep manual.pdf

It's a big PDF so scroll down about 1/4 of the way towhere it says Jeep T-18 in red.
According to this information posted by AA the stickout will be 7-3/8" not 7-1/8".

I was texting by memory so I could be off a tad.
Damned be any and all bad information !
My only new Jeep was 1976 a CJ-5 with all options.
But I'm not too up on post 1971 any more.
I only focus in on a liimited few of the post 1971 upgraded standards.
Ever since I sold that rig in 1979 I have been getting my kicks from the Willys/ Kaiser era's.
