I have found a 1964 Jeep Commando with a V6. At least that is what the guy say's it is. He say's it is one of four hundred Jeep made to see if they would sell. Is it possible? I thought the Jeepster Commando with a V6 did not come out for a few more years.

The VIN# should tell you the story.

64 Jeepster? Not a chance. No Jeepsters with any engine came out before 67. There are some early 67 that got titled as 66 even though they are in fact 67. Jeep didn't even own the rights to use the 225 until 67. I would ask him where he got his information from.

They started putting the 225 in the CJ's in early '66.

Alright so I went and looked at the Jeepster Commando in question.
I did not look at the title though the owner swears it is a 1964.
It was just getting dark so I did not get to do a see as much as I would of liked to. First off it was in pretty good shape straight body just a little cancer below the passenger door and behind it. The engine appeared to be a 231 odd fire the EGR was a dead give away. I think the carb was a Holley 500 two barrel. It had a Dana 20 and either a T86 or T90 transmission. Dana 27 front for sure not sure on the rear end though they were both tagged 427 gears. There was an extra set of shocks mount on the front mounting plate. Four leave spring in the front and two in the rear. And the Jeepster had a spring over conversion done. I kinda of liked it was not able to drive it front drive line was out and the brake pedal went to the floor.

    The Vin # 9411 10052 :v6:

IIRC the early Jeepster Commandos ran a D30 rear. Went to a D44 rear later in the run.

    I could swear to have a 1987 CJ5 too. That doesn't mean a thing. ;)

Front driveline missing almost always means mis-matched gears in axles. BTDT First Jeepsters had 30 rears and 27 fronts.

Don't know what that VIN is but it's certainly not a Jeepster which would have started with 8701 for a vert or 8705 for all other models. There was also an 8702 but it didn't come out until 68. SO is he also telling you the 231 is the original engine too :). And I stand corrected, Kaiser actually bought the rights to the 225 in 65. Another example of my failing memory  and relying on all the misinformation floating around on the web rather than checking my parts manuals ;).

The seller is an older gentleman and disabled the information that some one gave him before he truly believes. I was not going to argue with him. Even if nothing seems right a Jeepster Commando with a running v6 and a straight body should be worth the $1500 he is asking.

Very true and no point arguing with him. That VIN still doesn't make any sense at all though.

I believe that vin goes with a 1964 FJ-6A Fleetvan if flimqueens database is somewhat accurate.
