ok a new brain storm in progress. my bro n law has a 72 cj5 with a hard top for sale & if he can't sell it he wants a soft / bikini style top. i want a half cab. whats to stop me from cutting the full top up to make a half cab for my jeep? if it winds up with the backed squared off then that's ok with me, it don't have to be water tight as it lives inside most of the time & just gets used locally. i could even fab the rear up to be removable so i could take the doors & rear panel off. whadda yall think? thanks!

You can do it if your metal working skills are up to the task. The Meyer half-cab is basically a shortened full-cab. The main difference will be the back panel, where the half-cab does not have the flip-up door. The rear corner curves are the same, but the bottom edge of the corners is notched to hop over the edge of the tub. The bottom edge then meets the top of the rear wheel wells, and the area between the wheel wells is filled with a flat panel (a very simple bulkhead).

ok thanks- i live in central mississippi NORMALY but right now i live in a tent in afghanistan. in my mind i see cutting the top across where i want it then rolling 1" thin wall square tubing to match the radius inside the rear of the cab & attaching that to the cab then fabbing the rear panel to fasten to the square tubing. i would leave maybe about an inch of inset with the back panel under the rear of the cab. i know the side window opening will leave some gap on each side that will have to be filled. yes the doors are still on it. this jeep came from an insane asylum in texas & still has stickers on the side of them that says texas dept of mental retardation", about as politicaly UN- correct a jeep as you can get. thanks for the help & ideas, this place will drive you nuts if you let it.
