The USMC undercoated EVERYTHING on my '52 M38A1 - including the underside of the hood. Oven cleaner wouldn't touch this stuff. A pressure washer took some of it off, but there is still LOTS inside the hood. You guys have any slick ways to remove it?

    Thanks,

heat it up with a hair dryer scrap it with a paint scraper get all heavy stuff first than wipe down with diesel fuel
its a messy job and going to be a big pain in the a**
I'd probably just get a new hood save the back breaking effort it ll take to clean it
heck if they undercoated it that good least it wont rust for another 60 years

Home Depot paint stripper. Leave it on for 15 minutes or you will waste money. I did my frame and underside of tub. Sand blaster would not take frame until I removed the stuff. May have to apply a couple coats but it will come off like butter. One last coat with a rag and it will wipe clean. I use it outside and fumes are minimal.

Some guys use propane torch and that works too and is cheaper but I like the stripper.

On the positive side, the stuff preserved two of my tubs and frames for the last 50 years!

Thanks for the ideas. Yeah, the metal under the undercoating IS great. I have a needle scaler and may try that as well. I guess there is no easy solution. I have some stripper & diesel as well. Will try again tomorrow after work.

    Thanks,

Propane torch or heat gun worked for me on the thick stuff. Just get it warm then use a scraper. Then on the residue use brake fluid, stripper, etc. I tried multiple ways on an undercoated frame I had and that's what worked for me. YMMV.
