    You forgot the amp.

Together they make a MUCH sweeter sound than any of those nasty "boom box" cars.

don't have a amp, but thought about it. I was going to put it in the tool box under the seat. I made custom boxes for my speakers that fit in front of the rear wheel wells......I'm sure you could make one that fits behind the seat or??????

Seems like nobody here is a music fan. what are you wanting to have with the sub and amp combo? do you want lots of bass or just a little thump to make the song better.? You should be able to mount a amp in the tool box area. I would install at leat 2, 4 1/2 or 6 1/2 2 way speakers in the dash or below the dash. Depending on what you want for bass there are a few location s and sub combos to choose from. I am going molding out of fiberglass a sub box in the back behind the rear seat for 2 10subs, but thats me. depending how much thump you want as to the size of the speaker.

Oh - I am a music fan. I spent years as a kid in HS installing sound systems in cars for a living - stock, custom, you name it. I had an AMP - EQ - 4 speaker setup in my '49 and was a rolling advertisement for 'The Sound Shop' where I worked.

Now, I like the thump of my hot little V6 through long tube headers with SuperTraps on the end. :)

X2! Besides, every Jeep I've ever been in was too loud to listen to a radio anyway.

When I was 18 (1987) I had no backseat in my '66 CJ8 and had a box built with two 10" subs and two 6x9s running off a Kenwood 100w amp & 5 band EQ. I had 6" 3-way dash speakers running of a Sony 20W amp as well. It rocked. Sounded awesome. Turned heads.

And every. Single. Night. I had to unplug the box and carry it in the garage so it wouldn't get stolen. Eventually the head unit did.

So -- yea you could fit one in. Instead of the rear seat. Under the rear seat. In the toolbox. Maybe a tube subwoofer up under the dash.

But at speed you'll need it cranked so loud to overcome all the normal Jeep noises (that you should be listening to anyway for sounds of stuff needing attention) that you'll ruin your hearing.

And then there's always having to worry about it getting ripped off.

Still a *huge* music fan here - but never again would I have a nice system in a softtop Jeep.

I went through the same Boyink did. Head unit stolen, got tired of carrying everything in every night, couldn't go out and about without worrying about. That got old in a hurry.

By the way Mike, when did they make a '66 CJ-8?:p

I have an amp (Sony XPLOD). I installed it under the pass. seat on the tool box lid. I bought aftermarket seats (Corbeau) and used their almost flat mounts that adjust fwd and aft. I found an amp that was thin enough to fit under the seat and have output for 4 speakers. Here are some pics.

No radio at all in my CJ5. Had an expensive cassette player (showing my age) in high school and it got ruined by water. For security reasons I would never spend money on a stereo of any kind in a soft top Jeep, but my hardtop Scrambler has a Wal-Mart Sony CD player with detachable face and some Sony 6x9"s behind the seats. The stereo, a pair of 5 1/4" and 6x9" speakers came as a package deal for $100. The stereo has a line in connector for my iPod, which is what I use 99% of the time. In a half-cab Scrambler with quiet exhaust I can actually hear the music quite well without killing my hearing.

No amp or sub here but i used a 100 dollar computer speaker set. Opened it up removed the 115v to 12v transformer and wired her up. It uses a 2.5mm stereo plug that goes to my ipod.
