From a previous post I see the Autolite spread bore is not the same as the Q-Jet. So if I understand I can't use a Q-Jet in place of the Autolite. Is the bolt pattern different or is it the butterflies interfere with the manifold ? I had planned to go with a Q-Jet on my 360.

Both the bolt pattern and the venturi centers are different. I think there is an adapter - search www.ifsja.org/forums - but it's hard to find. IIRC the adapter is thick enough so that it is relieved to clear the QJ throttle plates.

Another option is an earlier square bore (Holley pattern) manifold - the adapters for those are easy to find.

Well, if you're stuck on the Quadrajet, yeah. However, the factory 4350 isn't a bad carburetor. It's really good on the trail. The tops tend to warp, so they leak, and people don't like them for that reason I think. You can probably get 4350 cores pretty easily from the FSJ boards.

There is an adapter from the 4350 to a square bore carb-Transdapt makes one. Actually the bolt pattern & primary throttle bores are the same on the Holley & the 4350 Autolite-it's the secondary bores that are different. I wonder if you could use one of the 4 port Holley to Q-jet adapters upside down & do some dremel work to make it line up?

I'll need to re read some previous posts. I had the impression the 4350's were problimatic. Not stuck on the Q-Jet and I do have a 2v manifold on the 304. I had hoped to have a complete engine ready when I replace the 304. The 360 was complete with intake and 4350 carb but it was an 80's carb with emission 0n the carb.

I have no beef against the 4350, I had one on a 78 Cherokee 360. I got a rebuild kit for it at Napa for like $15 and it ran great. That Jeep got 18mpg on the highway and it was a Quadratrac, so I think the 4350 is pretty economical, too.

The tag on the valve cover is 201P06, is that a 1984 built engine ?
