I've got a Warn OD mated to a D18. Per Herm's (the overdrive guy) instructions, I've made it to the point of removing the star washer. Tried the 3/8" extension trick with no love. Does anyone have any better suggestions? I've got a call into Herm, but thought I'd check here too.

    Thanks

If locktite was used to assemble it, your going to have to use some heat to remove it. I used to use locktite to assemble mine just to be on the safe side and always had to heat it up to remove it.

The instructions from Advance Adapters says to use a 1/2in. extension. ??? It's been too long since I installed mine, I don't remember.

You have the snap ring off the washer, right? The washer needs a bit of jiggle and must line up with the planetary gears to slip out. I have also had luck with some snap ring pliars or long needle nose once it's loose to get it in the right spot to get it out.

Then the 1/2" comes into play on the nut behind the washer that it fits into.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I didn't want to try the torch, as this is a hard item to replace! That washer is in there, and won't come out. I would hate to have to post that I ruined a non-replaceable part, so I'm actually going to unbolt the whole driveline, and switch it with the other CJ-5.

Seems stupid to go through all that; but, I'm thinking it's easier than having to save up the money for a replacement OD!

OK...new question! Does anyone know if you can take the transfer case off with the OD attached?

What transmission do you have. Mine has a SM420 with a spud shaft. I believe that I could remove my D-18 with the OD attached.

Most times the lock washer can be pulled out with a very strong magnet. Smooth easy pressure, sometimes alot of pressure on a good breaker bar. DO NOT USE A IMPACT WRENCH! Call Herm, he is very patient with first time overdrivers.
