I am fitting a 4.3 up to a T90 in a 48 cj2a. So far it seems like I won't have to move the engine/trans forward in order to have proper clearance. How about you guys. Was moving it forward required?

I'd say it depends on the adapter that you use. ~20 years ago I put a 3.8 Buick (not much difference as far as firewall clearance goes) in a 2A with a homemade adapter (1/2" plate) that used the short input shaft. I got by without moving the t-case/changing the driveshaft lengths by hacking the firewall (This Jeep had a push bumper on it and was used solely for pushing deadhead cars into my shop for repairs-after the V6 swap I once push started a a loaded twin-screw dump truck...on level ground. but I digress). If I'd had a factory adapter that uses a long input shaft I probably could have used the t-case in the stock location without hacking the firewall.

The 4.3 has the distributor at the back (it's basically 3/4 of a small-block Chevy) unlike the Buick which has a front mounted distributor.

I have it all sitting together in the stock location. It looks like bellhousing clearance is the tightest. I used some 1/2" rubber for body mounts and everything looks ok. If it still looks good after work I will fab up some motor mounts and weld them in.
