76 tub to a 75 frame

hey all...

been a LOOOONG time since i posted... we ve been busy here at the shop!

yay us!!

i have looked for info, but cant find any on here...

i have a 75 frame to go with my 76 tub and since the rear isnt as wide on the 75, does anyone know where i can find (if they exist) dimensions for the body mounts to marry these 2 things together?

or am i going to have to set the tub and wing it...

any suggestions on guage steel to use for the mounts?

anything weird that i need to look for?

i opted for the 75 frame cuz the price was right and the 76 had some bad spots in it that i didnt find until AFTER i did a bunch of fab/repair... but thats ok... helped with my welding skills

i got the frame, a full cage and a set of springs and 4" lift for 300...

i know the rear spring perches will need to be moved inboard... any suggestions there? BUT... the front springs on the 75 are narrower than those on the 76... again... any suggestions?

I would just wait for a good 77 and up frame. The 75 frame could be made to work with modifications to the tub but a 77 and up frame is much stronger if the rust hasn't eaten it.

I didn't include the 76 frame because they aren't boxed in the rear, but if you find one use it. It's still a much stronger frame than the 75 and back ones.

I pulled a '79 tub off an early CJ5 frame but don't recall how they had it mounted. The front axle mounts should be the same width on the '75 and '76. I swapped a set of '73 axles into my '83 CJ5. I had to weld on new perches wider of course on the rear. On the front the axle housing bolted up but I used '79 u-bolt plates and front disc brake assembly(knuckles out were of a '79).

 

yes sir, i knew i had to move the rear perches inboard, which should be no problem...

its the body mounts that have me scratching my head...

guess it ll be a lot of up and down on the lift to get it measured, marked, and cut...
